Intel Chips Enter the Smartphone Market

Intel has recently released its Atom Z6 smart chip for smartphones and tablets. This little piece of hardware handles the dirty work of data-processing, video and audio streams, and graphics with ease (i.e. speed). It features low-power-consumption; thus enabling longer intervals of use, and supports Linux OS Meego, Intel's Moblin, Google's Android, as well as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, Axel Fuugo Internet TV, and Skype.

This is big news for Intel, as it steps out of the PC market, which it currently dominates, and steps into a world of formidable competitors such as Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Marvell, and Nvidia - all of which offer the power-efficiency that comes with ARM technology.

YouTube's Latest Innovation

YouTube and parent company Google are taking steps in the direction of movie rentals, thus entering into competition with Netflix and Apple's iTunes Store. The idea is to make YouTube movies available for rent and offer a self-service rental charge technology.

There are some technicaliites that have yet to be worked out, however. Allowing free access to self-service rental opens the door to a plethora of piracy and otherwise unsavory use of the technology. After all, who needs the anti-publicity of hosting a $2.00 video rental of someone's pet cat chasing the curtains? And who needs the legal troubles of hosting a $2.00 video rental of a pirated film?
